Well I hope Rosser puts in an appearance if you haven't spotted him since Aug 19th. Maybe he's just camera shy.

So curious to know if there is any news of the Brandon family. Any sightings of Rain or Rosser?

I saw both kids on Friday morning (19th) chasing pigeons around the Scotia building, I have only been seeing one kid since then. I took a pic of Rain on Tuesday the 22nd and I have of course been seeing both Hurricane and Brooklyn.

Did somebody think that Hurricane was injured?    She looks much the same to me all the time with the colored wash on her bib.

When we were down last week, a passerby had a look through my binoculars and asked if that was blood from her last meal on her breast - which reminded me of when I've been asked before about the wash on their breast late in the year ... looking at your latest photo of Hurricane reminded me of Princess who also gets this rusty wash and that reminded me of the person who asked last week which skipping ahead a bit through this convoluted thought process prompted me to remark on the wash in your very good photos  :D so that folks don't think anything has happened to Hurricane and have no where to ask while the Forum is down ...  ;D

For those of you looking at RCF's and Dennis' photos - you will notice that Hurricane has largish rust coloured blotches on her white breast feathers, no she isn't injured its a wash that appears on their feathers after nesting for our bird - before nesting on others...
Interesting... Why does this occur, TPC? ???

This may not be the answer you are looking for, but I think it occurs naturally in peregrine falcons.

Anatum (Continental) subspecies (Falco peregrinus anatum)
The Anatum Peregrine is intermediate in terms of colour and size. It often has a salmon or peach-tinged breast, with stronger barring across the breast than the Tundra subspecies. The back is slightly darker than in the Tundra Peregrine, but still has bluish-gray tinges, especially on the upperwing coverts and uppertail coverts. The moustache on the Anatum Peregrine is very wide, and the auricular patch is often very small. Juveniles have a solid brown crown and forehead, and have a fairly wide moustache, although their auricular patch is often larger than that of adults. They have heavy brown streaks on their cream coloured breast and belly, and have small buffy edges to the feathers on their back.

This must be such an exciting time for you and Rose, rcf!  Seeing those two healthy young birds, growing and thriving!  Happy times to replace painful memories of those sad events last year :'(

What an awesome sensation that must be!

Sometimes, especially when they have fledglings, one or both fly low to check us out when we walk around the back of the McKenzie building to see where they are. The other camera I have beeps when its in focus and that sometimes gets them to turn their head toward me. They could also be wondering what kind of funny looking one-eyed monster could be looking at them. (lens)   ;D

What an amazing photo you have captured of Brooklyn, rcf, with her head all turned around, as if to say "You looking at me?!"  8) LOL!

Thank you.  He was looking at me.  ;)
