McKenzie Seeds - 2011 / Brooklyn & Hurricane
The Peregrine Chick:
Have switched the cams - now its the nestbox cam but even that is wet but you can see most the box but there is an unfortunate wet spot on the lens right where the birds sit. Upside of the wind is that it could try the lenses faster so long as the rain isn't pelting in/onto them. The wind is suppose to shift to the northwest which should give them considerably more protection (box is on the east side of the building remember) so maybe we will dry out some and we will be able to see more a bit later in the day.

Lots of drainage - this is one nest we never have to worry about water accumulating in. The 30ft drop to the roof below certainly helps too! :D
Rose:
The heavy rainfall warning is for Minnedosa and north not for Brandon itself. We have been having light rain all morning and the wind is now from the northwest which means the rain won't be driving into the nest box like it did yesterday and the nest box has drainage holes so water won't stay in it.The folks who installed these nest boxes knew what they were doing, there have been many many chicks fledge from this box with a great deal of success. Again because the water overflows the roof gutters and runs down in front of the camera lens (installed just under the roof) in torrents makes it seem worse than it is. We know it is not nice for the birds but this is their life and because we can watch we tend to think of them in human terms.

There is light rain and the wind is from the north west, so the birdies should be well sheltered........... they are on the east side of the building. There is a lot of water dripping off the roof of the window cam, it makes it look like it's raining hard.
Pam:
Brandon is expecting a lot of rain!
Moonstar:
Someone at work just said there is a heavy rainfall warning for South Manitoba. Up to 60ml. When I left for work this morning it was raining so hard in Brandon. I sure hope all will be well there because who ever was on the eggs looks so wet and so sad. I wish we could do something for them. I know it is nature but it is so hard to watch. I can't see the camera at work but the picture is in my head of what I saw this morning.
Does anyone know if the parent sitting in the nest gets a break or has food brought to them? I was assurming it was Hurricane ther this morning.
