I must have been in the downtown area around the same time as some of you!
I, too, saw a spectacular flying display!
At one point I saw all 5, fledglings and parents! I was so thrilled to see this that I hurried up to the top of "Fyfe's parkade", where I could see them flying all over the place. The wind seemed to be taking them every which way and they appeared to be flying with such ease. At first I spotted all 3 juvies up on the roof of the Manitoba Hydro Bldg. Then "the boys" flew all over the area, flapping, swooping, gliding, over toward a high rise apt. across Portage Ave., behind the old Free Press Bldg. They landed on an ariel, stayed there for a few minutes, then back toward the Hydro Bldg. Bea was perched on the Hydro Logo and appeared to be chowing down on a night time snack. What else is new, for her?
"The boys" then continued to fly toward the Radisson and appeared to be attempting to land on the ledge or in the nestbox, but the wind seemed to be making this difficult for them, so they landed on the Radisson roof several times, not far from the nestbox. Another really interesting thing to see also was one of the boys landing on a guy wire that was attached to the communications tower above the nestbox on the Radisson and it was almost as if he were trying to pull/slide himself down the guy wire in an effort to make it to the nestbox.
This was to no avail, however, because the wind kept taking him up again. I had no intentions of staying downtown so long but the "air show" was so spectacular that before I knew it, a whole hour had passed!
When I left, around 9:00 PM, Bea semed to be tucked in on the Hydro Logo for the night and "the boys" were tucked in somewhere on the Radisson roof. Wow! What a night!
