The process takes a long time so its in fits and starts, so a little encouragement from Mom and then everyone has a nap ... then more tapping and encouragement and another nap ... you get the idea ;D

I did hear a tapping sound in the nestbox about mid afternoon and wondered what it was. It sounded like someone/thing was tapping on the wooden nestbox, though. Would we be able to hear the tapping sound? ???

Don't know if the microphone is sensitive enough but I guess it would be possible if all the conditions were right (no wind, sirens etc). It could also have been something like a cable or something that was a little loose tapping on a nearby support or something similar. Our cabling is snugged down so as to disturb the birds as little as possible but there is alot of other equipment on the roof. But who knows ...

It will be something stuck to or stuck under the egg. When the chicks hatch, their down isn't long enough to wave in the any kind of breeze :)

Bit early in the day for her ... could be talking to the chicks in the eggs. They adults talk to the chicks to encourage them to keep tapping their way out of the shells.
