... this is when I want to tape their wings down so they can't do it ...

LOL, I'm surprised to hear this from you!  You always seem so cool and collected "It's nature, they'll go when they are ready".  But now we know you are just like the rest of us, sitting on the edge of our seats, holding our breath...  ;)

What I am curious about is whether there has ever been one who has "fallen off" so to speak while wingercizing - and come to an unfortunate end.  Or is that how fledging actually happens - they are wingercizing and oops, I'm airborn now!  I've never seen one take their first flight so I'm not sure if it's a planned take off or an oops.

Can't think of anyone who wen't while wingercizing, Thor got hip checked by Isis last year but we never had a problem with him, he just stuck his wings out and he was off.  Never came close to the ground or to hitting anything.  Mostly the "oops" is oops-didn't-mean-to-let-go-look-Ma-I'm-flying-oh-crap-what-do-I-do-now ... "oops" is short-hand ...  ;D

Usually they choose earlier in the day ... sort of like, I've-been-trapped-here-all-night and then, ooops, there they go ... they can go later in the day, just seems like they have more frenetic energy first thing ...

Happy Canada Day to one and all, including our fine feathered friends! :-*
I wonder if any of the Radisson chicks would fledge in the rain or stay put till the skies clear up? ???

KC, I have been wondering the same thing.

TPC, in the past, when a chick fledges, is it mostly done, rain or shine, dusk or dawn? Is tempurature a factor?

Fyfe and Carson (?) back on the box-edge, Beatrix is asleep again in the nestbox and Cade (?) is sitting midway along the ledge with his feet and tail in the puddle that has accumulated all along the ledge ...

Great closeup of the kids.

Seems to be a low flying aircraft in the downtown area that the kids are screaming at.

Edited at 12:00 - the noise is the cannons from the legislative grounds celebrations.

Happy Canada Day

Kids generally won't fledge in the rain, adults generally won't fly/hunt much in the rain.  So all is calm at the moment.  Comatose might be more accurate actually - Beatrix is asleep in the back corner of the nestbox.  Fyfe and I believe Carson are on the box edge, Cade is down the end of the ledge - the light is not great but it looks like white on the ledge falcon's band ...

As of today the chicks range in age from 39 to 36 days old ... nice if they wait a few days more ...

Yes, Jo, it does look like the sky is clearing downtown. :D And it has just about stopped raining here in North Kildonan.

It isn't raining in Osborne Village any more -so I'd imagine the same is true for downtown. Looks like blue sky and sunshine in the north  8)

Some wingersizing on the edge of the nest box  :o
