...When they come back, its because they want to return, not because the box provides something they can't find anywhere else.
So what would make some chicks choose to want to return to the nestbox, TPC? ???

The last few years the chicks have come back to the box until all the sibs have fledged and then for a couple/few more days after that.  Depends on the chicks in any given year.  Hurricane and her sibs never came back to the box.  Last year's kids did quite a lot.
Do you think it depends on where they hatch, TPC? ??? I mean, do they tend to return more to the west nestbox more than the east nestledge because there is shelter there? :-\

Nope, location does play a part, its all the chicks' preferences ... remember, once the chicks can fly, they can find cover anywhere.  When they come back, its because they want to return, not because the box provides something they can't find anywhere else.

Cade is the little trouble maker that has been out on the ledge for much of today - just saw Fyfe's and Carson's colours as they ran past the outside-box-cam ...

Looks pretty windy in the penthouse. I hope today is not the day they decide to fledge.

Top of the screen is the female, I think. She seems bigger than the two on the ledge even though she's further away.

Will miss this gang when they fledge  :'(

:) Two on the edge right now. they are calm, for now anyway. A couple large carcasses in the box. :P Parents are probably trying to fatten them up for their fledge and wingercizing will turn their meal(s) to muscle.  ::)

:) Good morning, newchick. Welcome to the forum. I hope you have a strong heart. Watching all the wingercizing and anticipating a fledge anytime brings to mind a phrase from a movie, "Hang on to your hat, it's going to be a bumpy ride". ;) gcg

When they are up on the ledge and wingersize and then hop along at the same time, I sometimes gasp because it looks as if they are ready to take flight. :P

As I watched Cade attacking that defenseless carcass with a vengeance, I wondered once again about how our little adorable fluffies can become these ravenous, raving raptors in one short month! :o

Carson and Fyfe are watching him and rolling their eyes.  Beatrix keeps getting in his way and nibblining on him, not surprising, she's finally grown into her feet!!
