And there are always territories that are preferred and that has more to do with the building/tower/bridge's location and/or architecture. The Radisson is the tallest building in downtown Winnipeg but it does have ledges for the birds to sit on and that is very (very) important.

Another good point I hadn't thought of (and oh, there are so many!). We have four other tall bldgs here (and I had thought "there's room for all" when I was reading Carly's Q), but none of them have the architecture of the Radisson, with it's fake roof and ledges for access by humans and placement of nestboxes. All the rest seem to one have flat roof where there are people working on communication towers, there are the window-cleaner anchors, the tops of elevator shafts, exhaust fans, etc. The false roof at the Radisson gives them the protection they need from human interference.

And the buildings have to be far away from each other as peregrine territories are quite large. We have three at the moment in Winnipeg and could probably get a fourth in if we/they could find a suitable building. And the buildings have to be a certain height in relation to surround buildings, has to be near water, has to be near an evironment with a steady food source, etc, etc, etc. So I'm afraid its not just a question of tall buildings ...
Have you all seen a trend when it comes to peregrines? Nothing is simple or straightforward!

I am back and just got caught up on reading. I will keep posting the edmonton site and you will love the Aussie sites. we have a lot of fun there.
skygirl blue and I spent a lot of time at Alcoa last year(pink nestbox). I was up quite late and felt like a zombie most days because of time change.I also was following Brisbane .
Anyhow, I am glad Tracy posted about battles in Edmonton . Last year at the end of the season my favorite falcon at Toronto Sherraton lost her nest to a young female Rhea Mea from Rochester . we do not know if she survived.this is Rhea Meas first season . the only consolation after many tears was that I saw Rhea Mea hatch and grow and fledge on
the Rochester site
at my site this year I was a wreck. the transmitter female who lost the site last year is my girl She got me started watching web cams back in 2005.
I know where she is roosting and I go and visit her. she may have a mate , we are not sure. but we do see a male hanging around sometimes.
When transmitter girl came back this year I was right at the computer and I freaked. A fight is not easy to witness.
Such mixed emotions as I grew to love the female of 2007. she was such a good mom. and then after 2 weeks of fledge the young miss hit a window. Now I was a real mess.
that both females were O.K> this year was a miracle. I phoned the biologist immediately and they went and checked things out. so 2 days later when Radisson came into the territory, I was a wreck again. I felt that the 2007 was heavy with eggs and she had just defended 2 days earlier and did not stand a chance.
When this happens your heart just sinks. but then you have to accept it and go on. the birds do. I just pray that transmitter girl does not try again next year.
sorry for going on but these things do happen. I just hope the male is never challenged as he is so good.
will be checking in and out and look forward to getting to know some of you better
thanks Lori for the wonderful pictures
And eagle 63, people that belong to cams have big hearts and are very understanding. I have found that out in the years I have been watching :) :)
Now I cannot get those pictures of Dennis's . any ideas anyone
I will be quiet now
