It does make you wonder doesn't it? :D The parents aren't actually sitting on them, they are actually standing over them with their wings down around them. When they are actually lying on them, its mostly feathers that is around the chicks. Its only the brood patch which actually seems to touch the chicks and that is necessary to transfer heat/warmth to the chicks. If the chicks don't need to be warmer, the adults keep the brood patch (bare skin) off them.
Its actually a very neat system.

Hey, SGB. Thanks for posting that breakfast video. It was great to see. I seem to catch more feedings at Elk River than I do with P&T. :)

When I check the feed from the cam tomorrow, I'll see if I can't get a better look at the prey and see if I can come up with some ideas as to what it was ... I'll even post a photo of what it looked like alive if I can id it. Hope to be able to save some of the feed as videos too, but haven't done it before so I'll tell you how it goes and I'll be posting them on the Project website with links from the Photo Gallery when I do.
Really wish Princess would feed from the side for y'all ... but there are lots more meals to watch! ;D
