Hi everyone ,Just felt I had to write ,I got up this morning and was looking forward to seeing our little ones and reading everyone note and when  I did  I got so upset I think I cryed for 20 min I feel so sad for them and I know it is nature but i still feel very upset .
But if Tracy and the crew are trying to help they must think there is hope as I do not think they would but there self in danger if there was no hope ,so let keep our finger crossed.

RAINFALL WARNING: City of Winnipeg
Issued at 9:45 AM CDT FRIDAY 6 JUNE 2008

AREAS OF 50 MM OF RAIN TODAY.
A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IN NORTH DAKOTA IS STREAMING A LOT OF MOISTURE INTO SOUTHERN MANITOBA THIS MORNING. AS OF 9:30 AM, REPORTS FROM SOUTH WINNIPEG AND GLENLEA INDICATE OVER 40 MM OF RAINFALL. BEFORE THE FIRST BAND OF RAIN ENDS NEAR 11:00 AM, SOME AREAS AROUND THE RED RIVER VALLEY WILL HAVE RECEIVED 50 MM OF RAIN OR MORE. THIS MAY CAUSE SOME LOCAL FLOODING, ESPECIALLY IN LOW-LYING AREAS. THIS AFTERNOON, SOME MORE RAIN IS POSSIBLE, AS THUNDERSTORMS FORM SOUTH OF THE BORDER AND MOVE NORTH. ENVIRONMENT CANADA IS MONITORING THIS SITUATION VERY CLOSELY AND WILL UPDATE THIS WARNING THROUGHOUT THE DAY.

This is the warning that the City of Winnipeg is under at the moment, direct from Environment Canada.  Nature isn't always easy or nice to watch.

I sincerely hope all the best for the chicks and Princess.  It is definately heartbreaking to watch.  Good luck Tracy.

Cam just zoomed out. The whole ledge is flooded.
Very neat to be able to see what else is going on around the building though.

Deedream, I was wondering the same thing, would they put the rescued chicks in the penthouse nestbox.  Time will tell. At times it seems like the rain is letting up and then it seems like the wind just drives the rain in even harder.  Princess sure it one dedicated mother. And the team is matching her dedication by even considering a rescue.  I too am wondering about the method of trying to rescue them.  It would indeed take time to get into action. They just zoomed out, I am guessing they are going to show the rescue attempt.

Another thought just occurred to me... but not only are these birds cold and wet, they have yet to be fed! How miserable must they be right now?

I know it's probably not likely but I really hope they consider moving the chicks up to the nest box so they will be out of the elements. I don't think falcons were meant to swim...

I am curious about the "how" they are going to do a rescue.  Rent a crane? Go by ropes and pullys, Use a window washing platform?  Any of these I would think is going to take some time to put in place and be dangerous and expect will be an expensive undertaking as well.  I wonder "if" when they rescue the chicks and they are okay will they move them to the original nest box up 30 stories, or will they have to be taken to a rehabilitation place?  I was just wondering and worrying in advance and trying to think positively. I know Tracy mentioned in a previous post on a thread somewheres that if ever they were put in the nest box the original one that the parents would find them so I was thinkiing that they may do that, now that a rescue has been launched and the birds are already"stressed" .  Looking at that darn web cam, makes me think,,,, oh lord how can they survive under there... have to wait and see I guess,  hope for the best, be prepared for anything. :(

I don't want to think of the negative in this situation, I know it's foolish to keep thinking things will work themselves out, but I keep hoping they will.

I also can't watch the FalconCam. I look at it really quickly to see if things changed, and then close the window. I hope we see this rescue!

Well, I think we do need to remain hopeful....but I do think the situation is very grave...Princess is really hanging in there with them....I'm gonna try too...

I've been trying to figure out if the rain has slowed at all but I'm not sure. It's hard to tell with all the wind, but I think it might be letting up a bit. Still no signs of the ledge draining though. Princess' tail feathers are still bobbing up and down in the water.

You are right Skyblugirl, most times it would have been left to letting mother nature take it's course.  The people of this project could have done the same but they are putting their own safety at risk and indeed prayers to the team. Kudos too because it shows their dedication to these birds, this species that is still in Threatened statues in terms of their population status.

Definitely a risky move going up there in this weather. Hopefully everyone (feathered and non-feathered friends alike) will be ok!

Princess sure is one dedicated mother! I think the water level has gotten even higher! Gosh I hope the chicks are alright!

I am feeling as helpless as I am sure all of you are. I am sick to my stomach it is so heartbreaking to watch this.  I am praying repeatedly for a safe rescue and I can't help be even more proud and in awe of "Princess" she definetly gets "mother of the year" award from me!!!!

I so agree....this is so hard to watch...I want to turn the cam off and just follow the situation on the blog....but I just can't seem to do that.  I pray for the safety of Tracy and the others...and that they find that the chicks are ok once they get there...but I do think we all need to prepare ourselves for the worse....and feel blessed and thankful when there is a positive outcome...I feel sure we've got enough positive vibes and prayers headed their way that hopefully its gonna be ok...I'm so thankful that Tracy and crew are even considering a rescue...other places would have allowed "nature to take its course"....Thanks Tracy and crew!!!!

In total agreement with you skypilot. It is indeed a dangerous endeavour to attempt a rescue in such crazy weather conditions as these.
