Finally I really do think its all up to Princess dont you guys?  We all know who wears the pants in that family, we seen it up close and personal.   :)Thanks.

Oh Deedream! LOL! Thanks, I needed that!  ;D

Your post twigged my memory and I just had a quick look and the post you're talking about is further along in Radisson Peregrines and is called Not a Great Nest Location??

P and T have alternated since 2005 it seems, so maybe they'll alternate now, if they're not tied into "one season here, one season there."

Still hoping they nest again, wherever they choose...

Hi all,

I see I'm not the only one still trying to digest what's happened and what could happen from here. I really appreciate being able to read and respond with you all in this forum. I'm finding that a lot of what I thinking or feeling is already posted and reiterated by other members. Very comforting, in it's way!  What a little community we've created. Have 3 peregrine chicks and their parents ever been so loved and missed?!

As I'm in BC time, my waiting for news yesterday was rewarded in the evening with Tracy's wonderful blog. I'd been hoping all day that she would see Trey and Princess. It was such a relief that she did and so poignant that Trey arrived, scraped, and that Princess was nearby, that it brought tears to my eyes and hope to my heart.  Seeing all that yesterday, when it was so needed, couldn't have happened at a better time -- almost like it was meant for The Peregrine Chick! (rather sentimental, I know, but it's hard to deny they have a connection, tangible or not!)

I hope the scraping is a positive sign that Trey and Princess may just have the resources to give it another go, and not Trey's way of trying to 'grieve' or make sense of what he's lost. Leaning on the side of optimism, let's hope he and Princess know what a lovely prepared nestbox is waiting for them and if the ledge is the spot, then we'll all be cheering them on with hope in our hearts and awe at their resilience.

Whatever Trey and Princess 'decide' to do, my thoughts and heart are with them, my fingers and toes are crossed with all of you, and my thanks and admiration for Tracy and all that she does goes out to her.

And of course, continued thanks to all involved in Friday's efforts, as well as Larry and other volunteers, and CBC and Shaw. If Trey and Princess do have another clutch this season, I bet our bandwidth needs might increase!!!   :)

Thanks for the 'community' everyone!

hey guys, well correct me if I am mistaken, but didn't Tracy say somewheres that, Trey and Princess nested here on this very ledge in 2006?? and one died when fledging, (too close to ground this site is) and that they came back last year to the nice nest box on the 30 floor! She was so frustrated at them for choosing this site as it is so high risk (because of height in addition to no protection at all from the elements).  Yet they did not want to interfere, well what were they going to do exactly, go climb up and move the eggs, then what, maybe Trey and Princess would abanden them.......... she explained it quite well somewheres.  sorry I can't think where. It seems that I am learning that they just have to leave things alone as much as possible.  She has joked about how she was mad at them for choosing this ledge again. Also they talked about it, and did not want to improve this site for them even after the 2006 nesting here, because,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, it was too darn close to the ground, way too low, too much risk for the birds to perious when fledlging and to fix it up and improve it would only encourage them to nest there.  They (hoped) crossed fingers toes everything, that they would NOT choose this site!  But alas they did.  Darn it all birds gonna do what a birds gonna do. So they didn't learn from before.  Yet last year they chose the nest box.  I thought well, maybe the birds know better than us. The nest box is on the west side. Maybe it is going to be so darn hot this summer that they figured , lets try the east side again!  I dont know.  lol.   How I read Tracys blog yesterday was that Trey was in fact back at this exact same ledge yesterday, scraping, and doing his mating thing.  I assumed that meant.........he was ready to mate again, and that this would be the nesting site again...... Man I hope i am wrong!  But like you guys, curious as heck now! Hope she can enlighten us about this.  Finally I really do think its all up to Princess dont you guys?  We all know who wears the pants in that family, we seen it up close and personal.   :)Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing Marie!! - Are they able to 'learn' from past events, would instinct tell them NOT to go back there (I hope!!) - or would they just start over again on that same familiar ground. (I hope not!!)  :'(

with regards to P &T mating again......just wondering how much the trauma of losing the chicks would affect them and would they go to the nest instead of the ledge....Would the tendency be NOT to go to the ledge because of what happened...not trying to humanize the birds...just wondering about that with my very limited knowledge of falcons.

Forever hopeful

Thanks for the wonderful opening thoughts, deedream.  You pretty much hit the nail on the head for me.

There is still the sadness of not being able to go to the camera and see what's going on.  I too woke up wondering about how long it takes for eggs to arrive; how long it will be before we know they're trying again.  And altho I have also been watching the Elk River cam for a few weeks, it's just not quite the same thing.

I keep thinking about all T&P went thru to get those babies hatched -- being pelted by frozen rain, sitting surrounded by snow, etc.  So sad they couldn't overcome this most recent vent from Mother Nature.

I'm still feeling pretty empty, but hopeful that they'll give it another shot this summer.

The webcam has been offline since Black Friday.  If Princess and Trey do try again I suspect the webcam will be brought back online. We humans such an ever hopeful bunch.  I think if they do renest it will be largely due to instinct, that's what they do.

Tracy - your blog for 'The Day After' is magical. Like Poetry.  - I admit I felt a little resentment at the beautiful sunny day, 'Oh well thank you very much but it's too late for that!' type attitude....Was very busy all day, and by the end of the day was able to talk about 'Black Friday' without tearing up every 2 seconds. (Phew!)...After reading your blog late last night, it put a little ray of sunshine in my heart.  :D...It reads like a fairy tale. 'Princess & Trey defy all obstacles, challenges & tragedies and rise again.'   ...Keep watch Tracy, we'll be waiting for news of our feathered friends....    :) :)

Good Morning Phanatics,

Yes it's still morning even here in Ontario in the blazing heat.  I've just read through this thread that deedream started and thinking how beautifully written deedream's words are, "Yes I think we were all sitting in front of the screen worrying about Tracy and her teammates, how they were coping, and yes if anyone had seen Trey or Princess."  I know I was.  As I was saying to a couple of people in personal messages I don't how it is that this family in particular snuck into my heart and held on because I've watched other webcams and never gotten this attached emotionally.  I think part of it is because having witnessed the hatching, something rarely seen by humans, and yet something so intimately precious. Was even going to write about my excitement at seeing such an event on my blog and call it magical moments. Then when Black Friday hit, it's because witnessing the birth, then the news of the death hit so hard. Moonstar touched on something I too  felt, I checked in on the elk river chicks but it just wasn't the same.  With each passing day I feel a bit better, my heart is still sad, but calmer on the outside. I know some people who know me in my life know how much I love birds but if they knew how I reacted to Black Friday they would think I've totally lost it for good this time. The few who actually knew totally understood, one friend even called yesterday to check on me.  I feel like I've made some new friends through this forum, it feels like this forum has become like a extended family of the Peregrines, Princess and Trey and the 3 little angels.  Doreen you touched on what I was thinking about asking Tracy before I even logged online today.  I was wondering how long does it take for an egg to be produced after mating has taken place.  In closing for this rambling post I must saying I am feeling more hopeful now having read Tracy's blog last night then I was feeling yesterday morning when I got up.

Good Morning all

Now even as I continue to read the post here, and yes continue to cry. I'm wondering what could be in store for us next! Tracy, if by some chance Princess and Trey have another clutch, when could the hatch date be? I'm not sure how long it takes to mate, and how long before the eggs come. Could she if she wanted to, have mated lets say yesterday( I know probably not) could she lay eggs in 2 weeks, 3 weeks a month? I really don't know, and if this were to happen then the chicks would be ready to fly in Aug or Sept instead of the usual Jul? It's usually still nice here in Sept so this could possibly be our next scenario right. Boy do I think to much! I'm smiling and hopeful at the chance to enjoy the family again this year.

Always hopeful and forever glad we have
a chance to watch these wonderful birds up close.

I believe you all have expressed our feelings for Trey and Princess as well as Tracy and the teams exactly on target.
I will continue to come here to watch for more news on our couple. I am so thrilled that you found them Tracy. I was hoping they would come back to the Radisson despite the loss they just had. Yes when I read your post the tears again began to flow for their(our) loss. But I thank the Lord they(Trey & Princess) are okay.
Thank You again Tracy for allowing us to be a part of this, the ups and the downs.
God Bless you in your dedication to the wonderful creatures.
Thank You also to everyone for sharing your thoughts.

Very nice post Deedream.

You said it very well.

I tried watching the web cam in Minnesota but it is not the same.

Princess, Trey and the chicks were like family (don't know how else to put it).  It was just more personal watching them and pulling for them.

Friday was a very sad day and all of us in this forum will remember the little darlings forever.

Take care everyone.
