Hey all-I've read Tracy's entry on the mating for life, but have another question that I haven't seen answered.  What about the off season?  Are the birds together in the winter months or do they winter separately and find their way back to gether in the spring?  Sorry if it's a dumb question, but enquiring minds......

Hi Everyone,
I love the idea of naming the chicks.  I like all the angel names that were suggested and any one of them would be suitable.  And if Tracy agrees, I think she should have the honour of picking the names or if she has other suggestions of her own go with them.  I know they were only 8 or 9 days old but so many of us grew to love them and I do feel they deserve to have names.
I hoping on Saturday that I will venture downtown and try to see Trey and/or Princess.  Hopefully both of them.  I have never had luck seeing anything while driving thru downtown.  So maybe if I actually park and walk around, I just may get lucky and see them.

That is amazing Tracy and it must make you feel very proud of yourself even on those days when things don't quite work out as intended.  You can actually see that the all the work you've been doing all these years to help the peregrine falcons thrive is actually paying off and that obviously gives you the incentive to keep doing what you are doing.

Here's hoping that Ivy and Lucky...well get lucky :D

With the exception of Holly in Brandon and Princess here at the Radisson, I have banded all the Manitoba birds we are watching right now - Trey, Zeus, Alley, T2, Radisson, Donna, Ivy and Lucy (if its her).  All but the first two are only 3 years or less in age.  Trey is 12 and Zeus is 13.  Its spooky to have banded the parents and now the kids.  If Lucy and/or Ivy figure out what they are doing, I'll be banding grandparents, parents and kids!!!  Very neat.

Well Tracy given the cirumstances I can see why Trey is your Baby :)  Quite something to band a bird born at the Radisson and then have him grow up and become the male resident at the same location :)

He's my baby ... I had a broken ankle and was on crutches & in a cast when I banded him, and when I picked him up after he crashed, and when I returned him to the roof all in 1996.  And he is just so darn purty!  How could I not love him?!  ;D

Hm, I guess you kinda like Trey aye Tracy??  ;D ;D - So Princess may dump him for a younger man - tsk tsk - I guess that's life. He'll have to find a middle aged lady companion then.  8) - Not this year though!!  ;) - still hoping for some new chicks out of P&T!!

As an fyi for the Winnipeg boardies who might be downtown, there's a great spot to do bit of Peregrine spotting in the Skywalk along the library heading towards the Canada Post bldg.  I was there not 20 minutes ago and spotted P or T soaring between stops at the Radisson and the Rogers tower.

HIi,
I just have to check in once a day.  I love the idea of naming the chicks and since some names have already been offered ,go with those.

Yes, mating for life has different meanings. ask us here in Edmonton :) :) For some reason we do not name anything,. But I do

I called last years female Lady Edmonton.  I am thinking Stud for the male. ;D ;D he has been with us for awhile and this is his fourth female. I think my transmitter girl was his longest and she is still trying to reclaim the nest,( but is just resting out the rest of the season now)  I will be biting my fingers next year again.,The one chick last year I called little princess.

I am so impressed with the Tracy and Larry and others that take care of this site.
We are still having bad weather here.  Hoping for some sun soon.

I know what you mean about looking for your peregrines.  I go to my site on a regular basis and I think they think around there that I am a kook. I have my camera and binoculars in hand. And anyone that stops and ask what I am doing, I hand them my binoculars and give them the story. I even have  the teacher across the street form me having her high school students observing on line.
what we so for our passion. :) :)

Have a great day.
cheers
bev.

Wow! - Way to go Princess - waiting for Trey.  8) - I hope P&T always stay together, it would seem strange for either of them to have a new partner. I guess that's 'Humanizing' them again.  ;D

'Fraid so.  Trey was hooked up with Madame for a few years prior to Princess' arrival ... and he is more than twice her age, so she may get a new mate, though usually it seems the "women" in this province "go" first ....  (knock on wood that nothing happens to Trey, knock on wood that nothing happens to Trey, knock on wood that nothing happens to Trey, knock on wood that nothing happens to Trey - oops, my favourites are showing ...  ;D)

Good idea to name the chicks...as I'm sure their deaths would be recorded by Tracy and entered in as history so to speak for this year ......so yea I think names for them is most appropriate.Perhaps names that might reflect what happened to them....just a thought, cant think of one at the moment though!!!!  Lots of poetic people out there.

Happy to hear too, that P & T are still hanging out!!!!!
