Yes, there are some captive-bred birds with red leg bands, but there really aren't that many around any more. But before you panic, most of the Midwest birds now have a purple (though it looks red) aluminium band on their "other" leg. So y'all need to look at both legs to see what colour is where. To see what I mean, check out Dennis' photos from the Brandon banding in 2008, Holly's purple/red aluminium band is very visible along with her coloured (black over green) band on the other leg.

I guess they just don't want to show any leg!
