Another hatch may be in progress, let's pray this one is better.  Dad is back in now and he seems interested in the little one that mom wasn't.

I have seen moms know when a baby is not healthy but usually they recognize that after they've brooded it a bit.  This female just pulled on the baby like it was dinner from the second it was born and then kicked it to the curb.  I know I'm being harsh but gees.

Corrected: I just saw it move a bit.

Sometimes, when everything works out fine, you are really happy to have these cameras to watch.  Then other times, like when you hear something like this, and you know that it is nature taking its course, it is still so hard to watch.  :'( Hopefully mom will come around, at least I will cross my fingers.

This is just too painful.  A quick death is one thing, suffering is another.

Well the male came in, he looked curious and so did baby and then he left.  Now it's to the side, mom is ignoring it and it will likely die. :'(

There was a pip in one of the other eggs so we'll see what she does when it hatches.  Some of the girls watching say she may have injured it as she kept pulling on it when it was hatching.

I wonder if maybe there is something wrong with the chick and the mom knows?

I wondered that too but she's never had a baby before - of course TPC will say it's instinct but the chick seems active and alert?  Like someone on BCAW said, even the chick knows it should be under mom yet she keeps backing away from it.

Wow nature can be cruel, the baby righted itself and tried to crawl to her and she knocked it on it's back.  I'm going into a meeting but this is too much.  :-[

I can see the little one in front of her; she continues to ignore it.  Things look very grim.

We've had a hatch here but mom doesn't seem to know what to do with the new one, she's kicked it a few times and  is keeping it away from her eggs while she continues to be obsessed with her eggs.  Will the chick live???  I've never seen this before, the baby is still aside from her and she's looking at it like she doesn't know what it is!!

Here's hoping she clues in but if this keeps up, that litle one is going to die.
