oh, des - I don't think it was bad editing (though the hyphenated version is probably better).  I think it was my wacky brain.  :)

Depends on much you want to spend. THe sibley choice is good but it is expensive, $50.  And if you want a small guide that you can take with you the National Geographic one is good.  But your the shopper, have fun looking through the books!
Yikes, $50.00 - no doubt worth it but...
Thanks.

Spotted a large winged bird going over Union Station as I went south on Main.

Okay, my brain is being funny.  The first way I read this was that des was reporting a large bird with wings.  not a bird with large wings.  doh!

no shaking on my browser.  I'm using IE7.

oh!  this was post #1900.  :)  if I try hard you guys can also celebrate my 2000th post on Thursday.  ;D
My fault.  Guess editing really is important.  "Large-winged" would be better.  I've been seeing lots of winged birds! ;D ;D

air quality check. Rain has stopped, but I still can't track down the birds. They are doing a great job at hjiding today, except from Pam. ;)

Made a list from your post in another section - thank you so much for the descriptions - so at some point soon today I'll look at McNally - Robinson.
Smithsonian and the Ted Floyd ones sound best, but I also want to check out the Sibley one.
Thanks again.

Des, what kind of birding book you looking for?

Walked around a bit near the Radisson between 8:30and 9:00 seemed a better idea than sitting home - just in case...  Didn't see the falcons.  Spotted a large winged bird going over Union Station as I went south on Main.  Looked around at the forks for a bit - often something maybe falcon-like in the distance...
So I report a probable absence of falcons.  But it was still great to have a look around, and eating a sticky bun at the forks by the river even in the bit of sporadic drizzle was fine.
Tracy , you mentioned a flashguide.  Still have any - didn't see the later post?  Save one for me.  I'm off to McNally's to find a birding book - tho' it will probably keep me from seeing so many falcons? in the distance.

;D that could very well be ,or too much caffeine.  as long as I have a way to get to the posts I'm not going to worry too much.  I don't know enough about computers or the internet to even begin to suggest what the problem is so I will just ignore it. either the computer gods will fix it or some clever teckie will get so annoyed with it they will fix it. The serenity prayer comes to mind for this situation. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change the courage to change the things I can and the Wisdom to know the difference.   ::) ;)

Mmm hmmmmm - shaking jitterbug screens now is it.. ??? - perhaps some of the Phanatics have finally gone over the edge due to cold turkey falcon cam withdrawl.. ;D :P

Tried explorer and it seems fine, I have any number of problems with explorer but the jitterbug index screen doesn't seem to be one of them so perhaps it is a browser problem.  Generally speaking I use the show unread posts function to stay on top of postings and that part of the screen seems not to be affected I will just continue using firefox as generally I seem to have far less overall problems
