I'm not sure they have a strong sense of smell.  I doubt it would be any different were they on the gravel on the ledge.  TPC is better equipped to answer the question though.

Hi everyone. After watching this site last year and now this year, I too, thought I would stop lurking and come out. Mostly because I have a number of questions that pop up. I noticed that the little chicklets will occasionally squirt out some poop, which is to be expected. Is there any concern that their now closed in tupper nest is going to get more fouled up? It can't be that pleasant in there with 9 days of waste that is penned in tray.  ???
