Radisson - 2009 / Trey & Princess
pmg:
all three chicks are awake.Trey showed up with a meal. Hopefully the rain is done and they can start to dry out.
Kinderchick:
3 big chicks, hunkered down all together, faceplant to the wall, attempting to keep warm and dry! As it says in the book entitled, All I Really Need to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten by Robert Fulghum: "No matter old you are, when you go out into the world, it's best to hold hands (wings?) and stick together!" ;)
Marie:
--- Quote from: Helen b on June 27, 2009, 13:26 ---just came back from downtown Winnipeg and the wind was blowing lots and the rain was much gentler but still coming down. Hoping for the nest that the weather will break, mist okay but please no more wind.
The chicks are now all huddled together on the wall very wet but appear okay.
Does the down also keep the rain off their little bodies?
Thansk you to those who welcomed me as a hatchling.

The down doesn't so much keep the rain off as keep the warmth in - think down parka, with the flight feathers being the outer nylon shell of the jacket. The chicks still have alot of natal down (a second downy layer that comes off as the flight feathers come in) but so far they are smart and staying out of the wind and up against the wall they don't get as wet as other places on the nestledge.
