--- Quote from: The Peregrine Chick on September 09, 2009, 02:41 ---Welcome aboard DJ, and great news to hear that you are getting what sounds like some visits from the peregrines!  Just a couple of things ... the nestledge you mentionned in your post and "the" nestledge are in fact two different locations on the Radisson - you can see the west-side nestbox, the east side nestledge is unfortunately out of view to you from your fine perch at IG at Portage & Colony.  Didn't want you to get confused when the gang here talk about the nestbox and the nestledge!

Aha! Good to know, I am new to this after all, and while I am familiar with peregrines and raptors in general, I only have a small amount of specific knowledge relating to the Radisson's penthouse occupants. I did think it strange that the webcam seemed to show a different location from what I can see from the window here, so that explains it.

--- Quote from: The Peregrine Chick on September 09, 2009, 02:41 ---Any chance I could get a look at the photo and the story?  Since the birds have visited it would be nice to a) make sure y'all have the most up-to-date information on our famous pair and b) perhaps I can tell you who came to visit ...

--- End quote ---

I had actually intended to do that - actually, I will go and see Corporate Communications, and check whether I can get authorization to send you a copy of the story, as well as see whether there is a high-resolution photo, as all I have is the one from the story, which is quite small and uninspiring.

--- Quote from: The Peregrine Chick on September 09, 2009, 02:41 ---Sorry to be a pooper but I'm afraid your colleague is incorrect in this case DJ, there have never been any peregrines nesting at the IG building downtown.  I've run the project for longer than the IG building has been standing and they have enjoyed visiting but have never stayed to nest.

I see! I just emailed her, to see whether I can get more information on this nest, and her reply was less detailed than I had been inclined to expect - perhaps she was caught up in the 'falcon fever' of the initial sightings here, and was somewhat mistaken. I will check and see if there is anyone else still with the company who may have more information, as it was in 2001 or 2002. It does seem that there was a nest of predatory birds of some sort on our 18th floor ledges somewhere, however.

Helen b:
no problem.  I thought that downtown might be too small but I was just wondering.

Hmmmm, don't think that would happen Helen....downtown is one territory and right now it belongs to Princess and Trey.  Oops, just realized that "THE PEREGRINE CHICK" answered that already....

Pam:
One on the ledge (Trey I think) and the other on the Radisson sign (N) - nice sunny day!

--- Quote from: DJ Stack-Up on September 05, 2009, 12:34 ---A few days later, a juvenile was spotted in the exact same place. In this instance, there was a photo shoot going on just a few feet away, and the photographer managed to get one shot of the bird before it took off. This led to a story about the winged visitors on our internal company website, featuring the photo.

--- Quote from: DJ Stack-Up on September 05, 2009, 12:34 ---Since then, there have been a couple of sightings of falcons flying past the 18th floor windows, but not setting down. We did have a successful falcon nest nearly a decade ago, according to one of my co-workers, but they eventually moved on to another home after measures were put on the roof to discourage pigeons. Building maintenance has already said that if falcons were to nest on our building again, they would do everything they could to make it appropriate for them. Hooray!

Sorry to be a pooper but I'm afraid your colleague is incorrect in this case DJ, there have never been any peregrines nesting at the IG building downtown.  I've run the project for longer than the IG building has been standing and they have enjoyed visiting but have never stayed to nest.  When the building first went up, I thought it would be a candidate, but no such luck.  We did have a pair nest one year down the street from you however, at the Legislature.  As for a second nest in the downtown, not going to happen folks, our downtown isn't big enough for two pairs to live in without conflict.  It has happened in the past but it was not a happy/easy time for either pair, no outright conflict but the second pair had to work very hard to keep a very low profile which is stressful for all the birds which is then stressful for all the chicks.  They were a young pair and were never seen/reported anywhere after that year.  Nor their chicks ...

DJ, watch your email this week - I have a peregrine-related question for you  ...
