UND Tower - 2010 / Terminator & Roosevelt
The Peregrine Chick:
Its confirmed, Terminator, one of our Brandon birds, has returned to Grand Forks so the Grand Forks, North Dakota Board has been moved to Manitoba Peregrines Section.
here's the link to make it easy ;) http://www.species-at-risk.mb.ca/projects/pfrp/forum/programs/index.php/board,8.0.html
The Peregrine Chick:
Terminator was spotted at the new nestbox at the UND Campus last Saturday. They are waiting for Roosevelt to arrive now ....
The Peregrine Chick:
Had an opportunity to check out the new nestbox on the campus of UND in Grand Forks. Looks like a great site and it is just a few seconds away (as the peregrine flies) from the old Smiley Tower location. Box really does look good and the UND campus has lots of flat-topped roofs to make for easier first landings by young peregrines. Not so many power lines and utility poles - one of their chicks from last year (Ethel) is thought to have electrocuted herself after she fledged. The old tower is completely gone now so there will be no hanging out pining over what was lost and the new site has been visited by the pair last year - not for nesting but for roosting and feeding. Looks good despite being a bit further away from the river but we will have to wait for the peregrines to return before we can say for sure. And why water towers? They are pretty much the highest thing in the city - there is only one building higher and it's in the open with no good perching or nesting spots from what I can see.
Only a couple of more months and hopefully T2 and Roosevelt will be back and pleased with their new condo!
(I'm hoping to get some photos of the new site from Dave L - when I do, I'll be sure to post them here or at least links to them here)
