Allen's Hummingbirds - California / Phoebe
susha:
What great news! Let's think positively!! Maybe they both got away. After all, what kind of meal could those tiny babies make for a big bird?!?
That's a nice ready-for-two-new-eggs nest!!
Kinderchick:
According to the chat board, a fledgling has been visiting one of the other nests, so it's thought that there might have been one survivor from the attack on the nest a few days ago. :D Here's hoping.
Kinderchick:
Oh no! This is terrible news! It is awful to look at the nest in tatters. Web chat says it was a Coopers Hawk that snatched the chicks. They were only days away from fledging. I will not be able to share this news with my Kinderchicklets. They will be heart broken. :'(
susha:
A sad, sad day :'( A bird attacked the nest yesterday and Mary Jo and Woody are gone. Just tuned into a view of the nest in pieces. The chat banner advises that Phoebe is repairing the nest. How very tragic for this little family. But of course, Phoebe carries on! :-*
Kinderchick:
Cute & cuter! Second hatchling has been named "Woody" (as in "Allen"). :)
