Allen's Hummingbirds - California / Phoebe

moka:
When working on the computer, I hear the sound of those wings, a strong buzzing sound, then I know it's time to go see what's happening. ;)

susha:
Joplin's back :D

susha:
I've had this nest on for much of the day and am completely fascinated by Joplin's behaviour!  I've been away for awhile and see that Heather is still on the nest and the folks on the chat point out that she hatched a day after Joplin, so she might not fledge until tomorrow.  They're very similar, obviously, but according to the "chatters", Heather has a shorter tail and a thicker neck.  Sometimes when the two of them are together, I can see a bit of difference between them, but it's very difficult! :)

Kinderchick:
Darned if I know, Doreen. ::)  I can't seem to tell them apart. All I know is that the website has reported that Joplin has been fledging and returning home all day long and that is what the people on the chat board seem to be saying. So if you see one lone chick in the nest, that must be Heather because she has not yet fledged... BTW, great screen capture! :-*

Doreen:
Ok so which is which?
