I apologize TPC, I have probably taken your post out of context. You, of all, know better than I. Again, I think you should should consider writing a book about the peregrines, with Larry providing all the photographs. There can be no better collaboration.  :)

Umm, Dennis is to thank for the incredible photography.

Larry has trouble operating a disposable camera.

But I can understand the confusion, every one wants to be just like Me  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

There was a sweet little chick pile... they were all snoozin...but now 2 heads are up.... looking around... preening...

TPC... I noticed the shells were gone... when you guys were up there did you get them or did Princess/Ivy clean house while the camera was down?

...I'd be interested in knowing where and how much they have cached but that's just academic curiosity...
I'm thinking that Ivy must have a cache somewhere close by because I've seen him fly in with food and then turn around in less than a few minutes and fly off with the food and come back with nothing a few minutes later.

Not so ominous, just wondering if the adults can tell if bad weather is coming and so they are taking advantage of the time they have to get some extra hunting in.  Have seen them scoot into town in the spring ahead of major storms and wait to nest until the weather has changed so its possible they can tell when rain is on the way.  I'd be interested in knowing where and how much they have cached but that's just academic curiosity.  They don't have a problem with tricky conditions - Ivy came in with food in the middle of night (0130 hrs approx), would have missed it if I hadn't still been on my computer.

Or Ivy could just be little keener-Dad, trying to outdo Trey!  ;)

1239 hrs (local) - there are going to be no more bird left in southern Manitoba at the rate that these two birds are going ... on the other hand, maybe they know that we are about to be hit by rain and thunderstorms again this evening and it sounds like all weekend ... this has got to be meal number 14 ...

I do not know about other posters, but this post, to me seems ominous. I can only think about a phrase I grew up saying in my home town, "rain, rain go away, come again another day". The chicks are being fed often in anticipation of some rain. I, for one, do not expect rain like last weekend. Mom and Dad do not want to fly for food after last week's rain. Not to worry, forum, they will be fine.

Tracy is it warmer on the West side due to the afternoon sun then on the East ledge? Could that be why Princess isn't sitting on the babies?

The two sides are warmer at different times of the day, the box has less breeze (other than from the west) so it can be warmer on hot days.

Given the temperature outside and the fact that the chicks are 8-10 days old (so almost fully able to thermoregulate) and that they are uncover, out-of-the-wind and in a pile, any warmth the adults would provide isn't required.  We'll see what happens when the rain comes, pretty sure an adult will be back in the box with them, if only to be an umbrella ...

LOL TPC  ;D ;D - Now this might seem silly..... :P - BUT -  is there ever any chance that the chicks will get fed too much, get too heavy & that will affect fledging... ???

At this stage, they fall asleep before they can eat too much ... actually, I'm pretty sure they are hardwired to avoid it and its not as if they have been food deprived since they hatched ...

Each new day gets better than the day before. As someone once said, "time sure (flies) by". TPC, is there a book (with pictures) you would recommend for us (me)? In hindsight, you should do it. I'm sure all would agree.

The chick pile is fairly quiet now.  It took the one in the back a bit to settle, as his resting head kept sliding down a siblings back.  Again and again, until he lifted his head back high enough that it rested on top.
So peaceful!

I must say again that I'm impressed with Ivy's hunting, he certainly seems to be bringing in a steady stream of food!

TPC, better get a bigger bucket this year!  ;D
