Radisson - 2010 / Ivy & Princess
des:
Thanks. I was thinking they were hanging out in one particular place. That is one huge comp;ex of buildings! I guess its the familiar case of "look up, waaaay up."
The Peregrine Chick:
Dennis and I have been checking out photos and the webcams, four birds are downtown, two we know are at the Radisson, the other two were on rooftops at HSC which is a common migration stop-over, not really a hang-out. They tuck down on the roofs because they are multi-leveled which gives them protection from wind, rain etc. And HSC has plenty of pigeons to eat and while its further from the rivers, its not far when you're migrating from, say, Baffin Island.
Des - no one place in particular, you just spot the silhouette as you go by ...
Kinderchick:
Oooo, this is an interesting development, TPC. 8) I'm sure between you and dennis, you'll keep us all posted. ;)
The Peregrine Chick:
1438 hrs (local) - and the fun continues - black bird is on the ledge, Sandy is in the box. Black bird is psyching Sandy out by being nonchalant and grooming. Now Sandy has bolted from the box followed 30 seconds later by black bird.
The Peregrine Chick:
Okay folks, I think Princess and Ivy have been gone for up to a week now ... why do I say this? Because I finally got a good look at the black over green bird I've been looking at in the box over the last few days and it AIN'T Princess. Band number confirms it is the female who visited us almost to the day last year - Sandy, 2009 wild-hatch female from Fargo, North Dakota. Have also been looking at another bird, not sure about size but think it too is a female however, black band on left leg (so not Ivy or Trey) but no numbers there yet. They have been hopping in the nestbox and at one point about an hour ago I thought I was going to have a knock-down drag-'er-out fight in the nestbox - glad it isn't breeding season!!!
Dennis has been watching the bird(s) at HSC more over the last week as it is the start of migration and it is one of our migration roost sites. Both of these birds he spotted earlier today there (which is what prompted me to hit the sky and box cams when I should be doing chores). And yes, of course he has photos. I'm going to make a wee comparison and then hopefully do some posting so everyone can play along.
Whoo-hoo, yippee skippee at the Radisson, nothing like a little migration melee on camera!!! ;D
